I Love My Magazines (by Jenn)

I love to read a magazine. I especially love celebrity gossip, so I really love those magazines. Last night, my friend Elaine and I were talking about how much we love magazines and the different aspects of the magazines that we read. We both decided that of course we like to look at a lot of pictures. We don't read the entire magazine (I do have one exception for that though), and we don't like the really high fashion magazines because the articles are usually kind of boring and us poor schoolteachers can't afford the clothes they are advertising anyways.

Here are a list of the magazines that I read and why I love them.

Magazines that I get in the mail:
  1. PEOPLE - Rian got me a subscription to this last year for my half-birthday (we celebrate half birthdays here in the Kearney household). It is awesome. It comes in the mail every Friday, and Friday is the best magazine day ever. People is the only magazine that I read the same day that I get it.
  2. IN STYLE - I get myself this subscription. The main thing that I love about it is the jewelry section. They have the low, middle and high priced jewelry sections, and it is definitely my favorite part. I also like how they will show affordable things to wear.
  3. REAL SIMPLE - I LOVE this magazine, and while in most magazines I skip around and don't necessarily read every article, I do read EVERY article or tidbit in this magazine. I love every single thing in this magazine. Seriously. This franchise also started a new television show based on the magazine. It is on TLC and it is called Real Simple Real Life. I have watched it, and it is awesome. Just as good as the magazine. (For all of you MTV reality show lovers: The ORIGINAL Road Ruler, Kit, is the host of this show. She is still cool).
  4. HORTICULTURE - My brother-in-law Jimmy got me this magazine because we both love to garden. I have a tiny garden, Jimmy has a really big garden that takes up his entire backyard. This magazine is good for the both of us because it shows me things for my little garden, and also shows things for his huge garden. It is cool.
  5. PARENTING - After I got pregnant, my friend got this one for me. I didn't think that I would be the type of mom who would read this, but it is really cool. I love reading the development stuff for babies, and I like the question and answer stuff.
Magazines that I buy at the grocery store on a regular basis and really piss Rian off:
  1. US WEEKLY - This magazine has a lot more pictures than People, but a lot more gossip. I think I should definitely get a subscription to this magazine because I spend so much money buying it.
  2. OK - I don't buy this as often, but a lot of stars release their baby shots to this magazine first, so that is usually when I buy it.
  3. IN TOUCH WEEKLY - I usually only buy this if there is something from US Weekly I haven't read yet. I actually bought it today because there was a story about Jennifer Aniston possibly being pregnant. We'll see...
  4. COSMOPOLITAN - I used to get a subscription to this, but stopped a few years ago because I feel like it is sometimes a little silly, repetitive and over sexed. But, I do still get it sometimes if I like the celebrity on the cover.
  5. IN STYLE WEDDINGS - I know I got married already, and I had an awesome wedding. But I love the celebrity wedding pictures, and I still just like reading about weddings. Shoot me.
Let me know if you know of a magazine I should be reading!

I like your selections. I had US Weekly as a subscription and still wish that I do. It's my favorite. InStyle is absolutely one of my favorites too. I really like Parents magazine as well. I just signed up for Travel & Leisure. I've only read it a couple of times but anything travel related I know I'll enjoy.

Hi Jenn! I just found your blog and was catching up on your life...so weird how much you can find out about each other without talking. Anyways, I get Runner's World and Women's Health (and Real Simple :)). I am not an avid runner, but there are some great tips. Plus you get those "health" magazines and it adds a little motivation (at least for me) to workout more.
